What is your approach?
explanation Reveal/Hide
Each client is a unique individual and there is no one method that will resolve each issue or problem. My broad experience coupled with sensitivity to each client helps me to choose those approaches that are most appropriate and effective for each person. For example, I might take an active/interactive approach with a depressed person who needs help identifying and expressing feelings appropriately. I might take a less active more cognitive approach with a person who has had prior successful therapy and is only now wanting to work towards specific concrete goals. Again, my approach is determined by the individual needs of the client and the style they are most comfortable with.
What is your orientation? explanation Reveal/Hide
My orientation is best described as eclectic which simply means that I do not strictly follow any one school of thought but draw from many such as:
• Psychoanalysis
• Object Relations Theory
• Self Psychology Theory
• Cognitive-Behavioral Theory
• Relational Theory
How long does therapy take? explanation Reveal/Hide
The length of therapy is quite variable and depends upon the degree and number of distressing symptoms
a person experiences. Therapy will be shorter for someone whose symptoms are mild and transient and longer for someone whose symptoms are chronic and more debilitating. The length of therapy mostly depends on when a person feels empowered enough to cope on their own.
How does psychotherapy work?
explanation Reveal/Hide
Psychotherapy is a collaborative process between therapist and client that explores and seeks to understand a person's thoughts, feelings and conflicts. Greater understanding often leads to more insight and changes in behavior. With my interactive style and psychodynamic approach, I explore both past and present influences on a person's behavior.
Who should be in therapy?
explanation Reveal/Hide
Sometimes people may not identify a specific issue, problem or conflict but will seek psychotherapy because they feel confused or feel a general dissatisfaction with their life. Whether of not you have identified a well defined problem or issue, psychotherapy can help you to feel more content and fulfilled.
